riding a cab

I used to ride a taxi cab wherever I go. Its convinient and comfortable. However, it contributes to pollutants in the air. My resolve is, walk or use public transport whenever possible ( if weather is ok). It was hard at first, its hot and humid. So I adjusted the time that I would need to leave and move around. (between 5-7 in the evening). It was cooler and still early, people are still on the streets. you get to see your environment as it really is. Walking around gives me more ideas for projects to make things here better.

Pet bottles

I realized that I was always buying beverages in pet bottles. So I decided to bring my own water. I fill a third of my drinking bottle and put it inside the freezer overnight. Before I leave in the morning, I fill it with water. I lessened my pet bottle waste and sugar/calorie intake. I lost 3 lbs. in almost 2 weeks! I also saved money. Everything is just great!

recycling at home results

Well after much arguing and reinforcing this idea. The waste volume was reduced to almost half. There are stil some misses but the effort is paying off. They have befriended a "magbobote" that collects the recyclable materials once a week. I let the maids keep the money from the magbobote as an incentive. I say its a win-win situation.

Recycling at home

Change is almost always hard to accept. Here in the Philippines, most families have maids or housekeeper. i am trying to instruct them about recycling and separating the biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes. Since the garbage collection for the biodegradable comes on monday while for non-bidegradable comes on thursdays. They said it doesn't really matter since most people are not doing this. I told them we can not control there actions but we can certainly control our own. So they argued that it will be more work for them, that they have other things to do. I told them, its not even suppose to be an arguement! It will be slightly difficult at first, but once everybody is accustomed to it. it will be easier for everybody.

I helped them set-up an area for this, also since there are "magbobote" that occasionally comes to buy bottles, pet bottles and papers, we are separating this too. I am also enforcing this to my family so that everybody will take part on this project. Hopefully, the housekeepers wont feel that they are the only ones responsible for this. Everybody should be responsible.
