11th Hour Screening Success Stories!

Thanks to all who have contacted 11th Hour Action and taken action of his or her own to organize screenings of the film! Here's what some people are up to:

-Dennis K. from Herbert H. Lehman College has organized a screening on campus that took place on September 18th of this month. He also reached out to Congressman Jose Serrano of the 16th district of NY for a panel discussion member. Some topics of discussion were reducing the number of diesel trucks passing through the neighborhood, remediation of the toxic storage sites, the creation of much needed greenspace, and more.

-Ingrid G. from Barcelona in association with NOW will be organizing an environmental film festival, screening the 11th Hour in the context of Eco Factor. Check out their website at www.cccb.org/now.

-Verdandi W. is beginning to set up a "Transition Initiative" and he envisions several small and large screenings of the film.

-Shahzad A. from Pakistan is organizing 5 screenings around the country under Pakistan's Technical Advisory Panel on Climate Change.

-Meredith B. from the College of St. Elizabeth showed the film on campus on September 4th coinciding with their CSE Green Week. The campus also had guest speakers from NJCORE and gave out reusable mugs.

-James L. showed the 11th Hour at work to an audience of about 50 people with organic food catering. He hopes to organize another soon.

Great work guys! Whether large or small, every effort makes a differences! Keep on spreading the knowledge and taking action.

San Francisco Restarts Victory Gardens

TreeHugger recently posted news about San Francisco's plan to renew its Victory Gardens that were started in an effort to have US citizens grow their own food during World War I and II. The country's Victory Gardens actually produced 40% of its food at the time and in SF's Golden Gate park alone, there were around 250 garden plots. What a great way to become more self-sufficient in food and not have to go to the supermarket for your veggies!

San Francisco's City Hall lawn will be turned into a huge plot for veggies and starter kits will be made available for those who want to take this on in their own home.

Cost Efficient, Eco-friendly New Gallon Milk Jug

Treehugger.com recently reported on a new gallon milk jug that cuts costs in carbon, manufacturing and shipping and is better for our environment than the previous design. It even provides more fresh milk to grocery stores... sometimes milk goes from cow to store in a matter of hours!

Sustainable Biotechnology

Students at Keck Graduate Institute have created a blog of their own to discuss and present ideas about sustainable biotechnology. More specifically, they are investigated the growth of algae, the subsequent use as a biofuel, and the issues promoting or hindering this process. Check it out at the website below.
