SPARK
So the plans for the Green Cart and Green Habitat have evolved and combined into SPARK (Students Promoting Action and Resource Knowledge). Since there has been some opposition of the idea of transporting students with the Green Cart, the cart will be used primarily as a teaching tool to show students that solar energy is possible and affordable. By teaching students the technologies for clean energy, this will promote action into other parts in the community, such as with Habitat for Humanity. The overal theme of this group is trying to bring "power to the people." The mission statement for SPARK is the following:
Ryan Rogers
Students Promoting Action and Resource Knowledge(S.P.A.R.K.)
A great flame follows a little spark-Dante Alighieri Paradiso Canto I. 1. 34
S.P.A.R.K. endeavors to become a catalyst for greater awareness and implementation of energy choices that will benefit all members of the community while addressing the pressing needs of the planet.
Students will take the lead with the advise of faculty in developing demonstration projects which will serve to educate other students, High School and Middle School, through existing tutorial programs in the community.
Students would support on-going efforts on campus and off and when possible try to bring practical solutions to the community. The resources of private business, all levels of government, and nonprofits will be evaluated and whenever practical solicited in these efforts.
While non-partisan, the needs of the community at the grass roots level will determine our course and in its meaning both of “energy” and “knowledge” we aim to support the bringing of “power to the people” in all that we do.
