Interests: I love being outdoors, animals (Especially dogs!), learning how to make things from scratch, camping, being with my family, and trying to figure out how to live a simpler life to help all live a better life.
Favorites: Things have definitely changed for my husband and I since we have moved to China. Our appreciation for things has become so great. My Mom laughs at some of the things that I miss and enjoy the most when I am back visiting. One of my favorite things is a big breath of fresh air, mmmm that is so nice! Camping and being out on a lake. Staying inside on a stormy day and reading a book or watching a movie.

Less is More Challenge

Status:
In Progress
Description:

I have decided to give myself challenges to push myself to become more aware, environmentally creative, and see what I really am capable of doing. I encourage any of you to join me in these challenges if you so desire. If you do please let me know and update me on your progress. I know it is already a couple of days into June so I am cheating a little, but here it goes..... for the rest of the month of June I am going to try and only buy things for my husband and my (Plus our little man, our dog Moe) immediate needs. This means I will only be buying things like food, medicine, and things of these nature. As I do this I am going to take mental inventory of the things that I am wanting to buy that are not necessary and see if I can boot them out of my shopping list for good. I will check in about once a week and discuss any struggles I am having or confess to any money spent to something that was not related to a necessary need.

Although I must confess already, my goodness it's only been 2 minutes into the challenge and I am already confessing! I do have a train ride on Thursday into a province of China that I have not been to before, so I am afraid that I will be spending money there. I wish myself better luck as this progresses!

Cheers to you all and keep on keeping on....

Even With Small Steps You Will Eventually Get There...

Like I said in my profile, my experience of living in Shanghai has made me want to make a complete lifestyle change. Some of the actions that my husband and I have taken: we use reusable bags (No more plastic!!!), hang our clothes out to dry instead of using the dryer, we started a compost, I have actually switched to butter instead of margarine due to the difference in the packaging, making our own yogurt so we don't have to buy all those plastic containers, and lastly we have stopped using paper towels, it's cloth ones from here on out!

Since I have become more aware of many of these issues I have really become focused on our consumption of plastic. I was astonished when I really started to pay attention. Now I catch myself counting the amount of objects the person in front of me at the grocery store is buying that is held in a plastic container or wrapped in plastic wrap. I even saw a plastic tray holding several kiwis that were all individually wrapped and then all wrapped onto the tray with more plastic wrap, I couldn't believe it! I find it very difficult to avoid plastic here, due to the small amount of awareness and care. I will keep on trying though!

If anyone has any ideas for me I would love to hear them! Hope your all having a great day and keep on keeping on!!
